That is a bold statement, I know. But I believe it to be true because I’m living proof. So, I will explain myself, then you can decide if it’s relevant to you or not.
How can I make such a statement?
Well, my past experiences of being sick and having severe symptoms have taught me how to prevent becoming sick at all. Of course, there is a lot more to it. It took me over a decade to figure it all out. But, constantly being sick is what drove me to try and improve my situation, any way that I could.
I used to get so sick that I would have symptoms that lasted anywhere from three to five weeks, about two or, sometimes, three times a year. It was ridiculous. I remember friends and coworkers asking, “You’re still sick?” Every single cold or flu infection I had was a long fight and a long recovery.
Fighting viruses for that long not only limited my full potential but could also become a serious threat to my life. Something had to be done. I became determined to find tangible results. Call it obsessed even. I was my own test-subject but, eventually, the dream of not having symptoms became my reality.
Until a few years ago, I didn’t know that becoming sick (from colds and flus) was something that could be prevented. It not only changed my life but probably saved it. Now I’m living completely symptom-free. How can that be?
Along my journey, I realized that there was a separation between getting infected and becoming sick. I always just assumed that if I was sick it meant that I was infected, and if I wasn’t sick it meant that I wasn’t infected. Sounds reasonable, but that’s not actually the case at all.
The first part is true. If you’re sick, you are, in fact, infected. The second part gets more interesting, because if you are not sick it doesn’t mean you are also not infected. It doesn’t mean that if you do get infected you are supposed to become sick. Huh?
No one told me that not becoming sick was even an option. No one told me that there were two possible outcomes when infected by a virus. Because no one really knew. On one hand, you can get infected, develop symptoms, and potentially die from it. On the other, you can be infected and not even be aware of it.
Unfortunately, we have no say in getting infected. Trying to avoid viruses is not a normal life, or what anyone would consider an enjoyable life. Neither is being sick all the time. But becoming sick we DO have a say in. And that choice is now available!
What I would give to have had that choice 20 years ago when I was, literally, dying from flu symptoms. These days, I get no cold or flu symptoms of any kind. None. It has been so long, I don’t even remember when I last struggled with symptoms. And, I don’t want to remember, to be honest.
I could figure it out if I had to, but it’s not important. What’s important is that I know why. And, if I can give that relief to others, I have to try. Having severe symptoms is a terrible experience no one should have to deal with.
Since I stopped having symptoms my life greatly improved. I have other issues, but having one less problem can be enough to change your outlook, which is everything. Not losing days or weeks to symptoms is a huge benefit in life. And not losing your life.. well.. no more words needed.
